New Music, New Venue to support Southeast Iowa Symphony Orchestra--Spring Fundraising Program, 7PM, Sat. May 17

BURLINGTON, IA - David and Dawn Hazell are proud to showcase the International tabla recording artist, SUPHALA, on May 17th at their new nightclub, "THE WASHINGTON", as part of Music and Menus, the Friends of Southeast Iowa Symphony spring fundraising program. "We felt like this would be a great chance for people to preview how far we've come on renovating the space and to raise money for the Symphony." said David Hazell. "We are also excited to bring such an interesting musical artist to a new audience. It should be something special for those who attend."
SUPHALA is a Minneapolis native, who now resides in New York and has played around the world. In 2005, she made history by being the first musician to perform in public in post-Taliban Kabul. She studied tabla, a traditional North Indian drum, with the master Ustad Allarakha. Suphala blends classical Indian and electronic music to create a style all her own. Her roster of collaborators is impressive Edie Brickell, Norah Jones, Perry Ferrell, Timbaland, and Yoko Ono just to name a few. The evening of "Mezze and Muzaki" will include a menu of Eastern Fusion Tapas, select wines, teas, and cocktails and will be co-hosted by Bob and Margaret Hansen, Patrick and Pam Hazell, Jerry and Lois Rigdon, Tony and Jennifer Sadiq, and Lonnie and Cynthia Schuyler.
